Enhanced Electrocatalysts Fabricated via Quenched Ultrafast Sintering: Physicochemical Properties and Water Oxidation Applications

چکیده
The synthesis of transition metal oxides is typically time- and energy-consuming. Recently, fast sintering methods have demonstrated great potential in reducing ceramic time energy use, improving the commercial prospects these materials. In this article, a quenched ultrafast high-temperature (qUHS) technique developed to sinter metastable brownmillerite SrCoO2.5 (SCO) less than minute. Surprisingly, SCO fabricated by qUHS shows higher activity for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) solid-state-reaction-synthesized SCO. Comparing samples produced two techniques, increased OER performance likely due synergistic combination surface Co chemical state, mesoporosity, enhanced hydroxyl ion (OH–) adsorption. This work demonstrates producing high-performance electrocatalysts provides detailed insights into impact on materials’ physical properties electrocatalytic activity.

An aqueous preoxidation method for monolithic perovskite electrocatalysts with enhanced water oxidation performance
Perovskite oxides with poor conductivity call for three-dimensional (3D) conductive scaffolds to demonstrate their superb reactivities for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, perovskite formation usually requires high-temperature annealing at 600° to 900°C in air, under which most of the used conductive frameworks (for example, carbon and metal current collectors) are reductive and cannot...
متن کاملStructure and Electrochemical Properties of Electrocatalysts for NADH Oxidation
NADH electrocatalysts have been an area of study for over 3 decades. Polyazines have been popular electrocatalysts of choice for NADH oxidation for both sensors and biofuel cell applications. However, little is known about the structure and function relationship between these polyazines and their ability for NADH oxidation. In this paper, we utilize XPS, SEM, and NMR to evaluate the structure o...
متن کاملDynamic potential–pH diagrams application to electrocatalysts for water oxidation†
The construction and use of ‘‘dynamic potential–pHdiagrams’’ (DPPDs), that are intended to extend the usefulness of thermodynamic Pourbaix diagrams to include kinetic considerations is described. As an example, DPPDs are presented for the comparison of electrocatalysts for water oxidation, i.e., the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), an important electrochemical reaction because of its key role i...
متن کاملNovel Fully Organic Water Oxidation Electrocatalysts: A Quest for Simplicity
Despite the growing need for readily available and inexpensive catalysts for the half-reactions involved in water splitting, water oxidation and reduction electrocatalysts are still traditionally based on noble metals. One long-standing challenge has been the development of an oxygen evolution reaction catalyzed by easily available, structurally simple, and purely organic compounds. Herein, we ...
متن کاملEnhanced Multiferroic Properties of YMnO3 Ceramics Fabricated by Spark Plasma Sintering Along with Low-Temperature Solid-State Reaction
Based on precursor powders with a size of 200-300 nm prepared by the low-temperature solid-state reaction method, phase-pure YMnO₃ ceramics are fabricated using spark plasma sintering (SPS). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) reveal that the high-purity YMnO₃ ceramics can be prepared by SPS at 1000 °C for 5 minutes with annealing at 800 °C for 2 h. The relative densi...
